As a black artist, I know firsthand how important it is to see ourselves represented in art. After losing my child,who was all of 24 years old and her name was London.
I turned to my art as a way to stay motivated and find healing. She always told me to never give up that my things were too good. When I began to feel like things just aren't working, she would tell me that, don't give up Mom, your things are too good! I hold on to that. I keep trying. Not just for myself but for her two beautiful girls, my granddaughters.
Through my art, I was able to express my grief, but also celebrate the beauty and resilience of blackness.
